HYDERABAD: Plea to deploy army on election day
HYDERABAD, Sept 26: People’s Party Parliamentarians MNA Nawab Abdul Ghani Talpur has demanded that army be deployed at all polling stations of the Jamshoro district for the third phase of local body elections.
In a telegram to the president on Monday, he said the deployment of army was necessary to ensure transparency of the election.
He said the final phase of election could be jeopardized if the army was not deployed.
PROTEST: The Anjuman-i-Tajiran Footwear staged a demonstration at the Siroghat Chowk on Monday in protest against holding of Awami Shoe Melas in the city.
A large number of trade organizations including Anjuman Tajiran-i-Sindh, Small Traders’ Organization, Anjuman Tajiran Fakir-jo-Pir, electronic dealers group and others took part in the demonstration.
It was resolved that all shoe merchants would observe a token shutter-down strike from 12noon to 2pm on September 28.
MPA Rehman Rajput, Ashraf Memon, Haji Zaheer Shaikh and Fayaz Awan condemned holding of shoe melas.
They said cheap shoe melas would destroy business of local shoe manufactures as well as footwear merchants.
They also condemned shifting of the MCB New Cloth Market branch.
They constituted a 15-member action committee to chalk out future course of action.
