Ten injured in Quetta grenade attack

QUETTA: Seven labourers and three children were injured in a grenade attack in the Samungli Road area here on Wednesday.

Police said that two persons riding a motorcycle hurled a grenade at an under-construction bridge which exploded and caused injuries to 10 people.

“Seven labourers and three children who were passing through the area were injured,” a police officer said, adding that the miscreants escaped after the attack.

Soon after receiving information about the blast, police and personnel of Frontier Corps rushed to the site and shifted the injured to hospital.

“Four labourers have received multiple injuries in the blast,” Dr Wasim Baig said, adding that the condition of other injured was stable.

The injured were identified as Mohammad Sadiq, Jaman Khan, Mangal Khan, Gohram, Mohammad Musa, Asadullah and Mushtaq, all labourers, and Waheed Khan, Roohullah and Mohammad Hashim, the children.

Police registered a case against unidentified miscreants and started investigation. No one immediately claimed responsibility for the grenade attack.

Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan Alyani, Home Minister Ziaullah Langove, Education Minister Sardar Yar Mohammad Rind and Parliamentary Secre-tary on Minority Affairs Danesh Kumar condemned the attack.

The chief minister, in a statement directed the authorities concerned to submit a report about the incident to him at the earliest. He said that the injured should be provided best medical treatment.

“Police and the district administration should bring those responsible for this cowardly attack to book,” he said.

He said the cowardly actions of anti-state elements could not dampen the spirits of the people of the province.

“Those involved in taking lives of innocent people must be awarded exemplary punishment,” Mr Alyani said, vowing that the journey to peace, tranquility and development in Balochistan would continue at any cost.

He said that with the support of the people, the security forces were determined to take every possible step against the anti-peace elements.
