HYDERABAD: PPP leader accuses Jatoi of harassing opponents

HYDERABAD, Sept 28: The PPP leader and former railways minister, Haji Zafar Ali Leghari, has alleged that federal Minister for Water and Power Liaquat Ali Jatoi has resorted to political victimization and is punishing those who did not vote in favour of his supported candidates in the local body polls.

Speaking at a news conference at the press club on Wednesday, he said that Mr Jatoi had unleashed atrocities against his opponents in Dadu district and even the power supply to those villages which did not vote for Jatoi’s candidates remained suspended for 20 hours at a stretch.

He claimed that all equipment for an approved grid station at Seeta road had been removed.

The PPP leader claimed that Mr Jatoi had been given ministry for his efforts to level ground for the proposed construction of the controversial Kalabagh dam.

Mr Leghari said that during the last general elections he was offered the post of Sindh chief minister as a reward for leaving the Pakistan People’s Party.

He further said that federal minister for water and power, Liaquat Ali Jatoi with the help of Sattar Keerio was in constant touch with Benazir Bhutto to join the PPP.

Mr Leghari said that whatever the consequences be, he would never leave the PPP.

He challenged Mr Jatoi to contest elections against him and if he won, he (Leghari) would leave politics forever.

SPSF: Members of the council and office-bearers of the Sindh People’s Students Federation from various districts at a meeting on Wednesday demanded the sacking of the president of the federation, Suleman Dasti.

Mukhtar Baloch presided over the meeting while former SPSF president Dr Arshad Mughal was the chief guest.

The meeting alleged that Mr Dasti was a retired government employee, politically immature and knew nothing about the constitution of the federation.

The members said that Mr Dasti had supported the opponents of PPP in the local body polls.

They urged PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto, Makhdoom Mohammad Amin Fahim, Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Asif Ali Zardari to sack Mr Dasti and appoint a regular student in his place as the president of the federation.
