Cook-it-yourself: Puff pastry pizza
It’s always time for a pizza party, and you can always make pizza whether you have all the ingredients or not, because you can turn anything into a pizza base as long as you can cover it up with some topping and you like experimenting with ingredients.
So when I was craving pizza and didn’t want to go through the process of making a base or buying a ready-made one, I decided to use what I had at hand — puff pastry dough. Yes, I made a delicious pizza using puff pastry dough and you can too. Let’s see how!
Ingredients
• 500g puff pastry dough
• 1/2 cup pizza sauce or chilli garlic sauce
• 1 cup cheese, grated
• 1 tomato, sliced
• 4 sausages, sliced
• 1 onion, sliced
• 2 tablespoons olive slices
• 1 teaspoon oregano powder
Method
Ask an adult to turn the oven on, preheating it to 180 degrees Centigrade. Cut the dough into half to make it into a more manageable size, and roll out into a half-inch thick base. You can roll it in a circular shape or a rectangular one like I did. I made two pizzas out of the ingredients.
Transfer it on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Spread pizza sauce on the base and then the grated cheese, followed by tomatoes, onion pieces, sausage slices, olives and oregano.
Bake for about 15 minutes. By gently lifting a corner of the parchment paper, you can check if the base is golden from the bottom or not. Then turn on the top grill and bake for five more minutes or until the cheese is melted from the top and a light brown colour covers the top.
Cut it into slices and serve hot. Once you taste this tempting variation of pizza, you would want to try it again and again. Happy cooking!
