Mansehra DC hints at complete lockdown

MANSEHRA: Deputy commissioner Dr Qasim Ali Khan has hinted at imposing a complete lockdown in Mansehra district to stem the spread of novel coronavirus.

“The people’s safety is very important to us. If the high coronavirus positivity rate continues in our district, the possibility of a complete lockdown can’t be ruled out,” he told reporters in his office here on Monday.

Accompanied by deputy district health officer Dr Mohammad Siddique, the deputy commissioner said the administration was alert about the growing coronavirus incidence.

He said the King Abdullah Teaching Hospital, Elementary College quarantine centre, tehsil headquarters hospital and rural health centres in the district could admit a total of around 500 Covid-19 patients at the same time and had oxygen for them in adequate supply.

Dr Qasim said the administration had sealed Garhi Habibullah town and closed around 60 government and private educational institutions in the area bordering Azad Jammu and Kashmir and therefore, the virus incidence dropped drastically.

Deputy district health officer Dr Siddique said the Covid-19 recovery rate was satisfactory in the district as the health department in collaboration with the district administration was ensuring screening of more and more people for the virus.

Also in the day, assistant commissioner of Balakot tehsil Nawab Sameer Hussain Leghari met religious scholars and leaders of transport and trader bodies and urged them to ensure that worshippers, shoppers and travellers use face mask and practice social distancing.

GRANT: PTI MPA Babar Saleem Swati handed over a Rs1 million cheque of the government to district bar association president Amir Khan here on Monday.
