LAKKI MARWAT: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, Lakki Marwat chapter office-bearers have asked the government to launch work on the building of the University of Lakki Marwat and provide quality healthcare in public sector hospitals.

Talking to Dawn on Saturday, PTI’s Lakki tehsil president Dr Mohammad Iqbal expressed concern over delay in launching of work on the varsity’s own building despite the fact that land had been acquired, and feasibility and designing of the structure completed.

He said the project was approved during the last tenure of the PTI-led government in the province.

“The government also provided funds for acquiring land near the Lakki city for construction of the building,” he claimed.

He also blasted the varsity administration for holding syndicate and other important meetings in Peshawar, saying such meetings should be held locally.

Another PTI leader Ahmad Nawaz said public sector hospitals lacked medicines and facilities. He said the government city hospital was short of medicines and other facilities, adding doctors used to refer serious patients to hospitals in other cities.

Mr Nawaz asked the provincial government to ensure availability of sufficient lifesaving drugs in the city hospital.

OUTLAW HELD: The police on Saturday arrested an outlaw at a checkpost between Lakki Marwat and Mianwali districts.

During checking of vehicles at Qaboolkhel checkpost on a tip-off, the police intercepted two motorcyclists and verified their personal information through the criminal record verification software, an official said, adding the verification showed one of them identified as Farmanullah was a proclaimed offender wanted in a murder case by Shah Salim police station of Karak district.

The police also arrested his accomplice for facilitating him to flee to Punjab.

POWER BREAKDOWN: Residents of Haqdadabad locality of the Lakki city have demanded of the Pesco chief to order probe into a nightlong power breakdown in the locality the other day.

Talking to reporters, they said light rain caused suspension of electricity supply to the urban locality at around 8pm on Friday, which continued till 9am.

They accused the Pesco officials of often suspending electricity supply to the urban locality by dropping power links on the main transmission line.

They asked the Pesco chief to order removal of power links from the main transmission line and ensure uninterrupted supply to Haqdadabad and other urban localities.
