Website review: Comics made easy!
If you are one of those who love to read stories with pictures and characters, or comics with small but catchy details, here is a great source for you to create and personalise your very own comics at Pixton — an easy to use comic maker which doesn’t require you to have any drawing or art skills.
Before creating anything you must register on the site, and then create your avatar by giving all the related information about him/her. The website will give you many options to choose from like gender, then skin tone, hair colour, hair style, clothes even the expression. Then you will be asked to give the title to your comic.
The next screen will open with categories on the top centre of the page such as, Background, Character, Focus, Words, Faces, Actions; of course, all these titles suggest the related detail that you can give to your comic. You will notice a panel to appear at the left side with thumbnails of the slides you create, while the right side will have your comic scene on which you are working.
Start from choosing the background, such as outdoor, home, school, office, class, window and desk; all having subcategories in them, for instance, if you choose outdoor, you can give details of water, city, forest, grass, road, etc.
Once you choose the background, you will see it pop up at the right side of the screen, you can edit from the options given below the scene, for instance, if you have chosen a background that has shown daytime, you can turn the same background in the night time by editing it. You can choose the character from characters and give details like outfit, colours and hair.
In the Focus category, choose what should be focused in your scene. The character, or something else, in short where you want the main focus to be; add words from the Words’ category either dialogues, thoughts etc. you can create as many slides as you want and save them in your profile.
The site does quite well in making one learn how to create a comic and add details to it, what the site lacks is the option to download or print the comic you have made; also, there are many locked backgrounds, characters, outfits which can only be unlocked after paying. Other than that, the site is outstanding in making kids to develop interest in the graphics by learning to create comics of their choice.
So those of you interested in comics can come up with their own comic at www.pixton.com
