Closure of Sukkur Barrage canals announced

SUKKUR: The irrigation department has issued the schedule for annual closure of off-taking canals of Sukkur Barrage from January 6 to Jan 20, 2021 for carrying out annual repair and maintenance, removal of silt and making infrastructure better.

According to chief engineer of Sukkur Barrage Irshad Ahmed Memon, water supply will remain closed to Dadu Canal, NWF Canal, Kirthar Canal, Khairpur East Canal, Khairpur West Canal, Rohri Canal, Nara Canal and its related channels during the said period.

Two held

The railways police have arrested two suspects and registered a case against four people who allegedly attacked railways officials during a drive against encroachments in Sukkur.

The anti-encroachment operation was launched in the area of railways sleeper factory, Adam Shah Colony in Sukkur to remove illegal occupations from the residential quarters under supervision of the railway officials on Monday.

The people occupying the residential quarters of the railways put up strong resistance during which many of them allegedly attacked the railways officials.

The railway police Sukkur registered a case for violence and creating hurdles in official duties against four persons — Mubashir, Mudasir, Mohammad Ibrahim, Aqeel Ahmed and others — while the police arrested Mubashir and Mudasir and started investigation against them.
