Syndicate approves third-party screening for Okara varsity hirings
OKARA: The University of Okara (UO) in its 15th Syndicate meeting, chaired by Punjab Higher Education Department Minister Raja Yasir Humayun Khan, approved on Thursday the hiring of a third party independent screening policy for recruitment for administrative positions.
The Syndicate also upheld the recommendations of the search committee regarding appointment of the registrar and the controller of examinations and forwarded these to higher authorities for consideration.
In the meeting, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zakria Zakar elaborated the measures taken by the university to ensure transparency and meritocracy in recommendation for posting and appointments.
The Syndicate allowed the university to hire an independent screening organisation for shortlisting candidates through a written test.
Keeping in view the needs of Special Education Department (SED), the body approved the induction of a faculty member holding a PhD degree for the improvement of the SED.
At the end of meeting, the minister praised the UO administration efforts for successfully providing higher education opportunities to 16,000 students of the district and its vicinities.
CASE: Among 43 suspects, 13 are nominated in a case who injured a police raiding party late on Thursday at Malgada Chowk, some 30km in the south of the city.
They allegedly snatched mobile phones and cash from the police officials when the officials stopped them from aerial firing at the wedding of Faisal Majeed.
A first information report got registered by Assistant Sub Inspector Saeed Ahmad reads the police patrolling team on being alerted arrived at Malgada Chowk where in a marriage party, a group of armed men was doing firing in jubilation.
The police told them to avoid the shooting but they manhandled the police staffers, including complainant ASI Saeed Ahmad and constables Qasim and Mujahid Islam. They injured them and snatched their phones and cash.
The police officials visited the local rural health centre and got a medico legal certificate of the injured ASI. The Shahbore police registered a case against 43 people, and of them the nominated are Faisal Majeed, Habib, Yaseen, Muzammal, Ghafoor, Sultan and Iqbal.
