Promotion of officers in BS-20, 21 recommended

ISLAMABAD: The Central Selection Board (CSB) on Wednesday recommended promotion of officers of various cadres and ministries in BS-20 and BS-21, including those belonging to top spy agencies Inter-Services Intelligence and Intelligence Bureau.

A meeting of the CSB, headed by Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) chairman retired Capt Zahid Saeed, considered the promotion of officers of the ministries of defence, including Military Land and Cantonment Group, defence production, interior, narcotics control, water resources, human rights, national health services, education, food security, overseas Pakistanis, science and technology, energy and finance, President Secretariat, Board of Investment, FPSC, Cabinet Division and Aviation Division.

After PM’s approval the Establishment Division will notify the promoted officers

The board also examined the promotion of officers of the Foreign Service of Pakistan, Information Group, Pakistan Audit and Accounts Service and other cadres which could not come under discussion during its meeting on Tuesday due to paucity of time.

On Wednesday, the CSB considered four deputy directors general of the ISI for their promotion to BS-21 on two vacant posts of directors general. Likewise, the board considered 14 directors for their promotion to BS-20 on two seats of deputy directors general.

The CSB also considered six senior IB officers for their promotion to BS-21 on three vacant posts of joint directors general as well as 22 directors to the post of deputy directors general in BS-20.

It may be mentioned that earlier there was only one post of BS-21 for civilian officers in the Intelligence Service. On Sept 15, 2017, the-then prime minister had approved a proposal for increasing the number of posts of directors general — the highest civilian rank in the agency — from one to four. The number of posts of deputy directors general had also been increased from eight to 15.

As per the agenda of the meeting, the CSB was scheduled to examine the promotion of the officers of all cadres of civil service in BS-20 and BS-21 from Jan 4 to Jan 6.

The board convened its first meeting on Jan 4 and recommended the promotion of the officers belonging to the Police Service of Pakistan and Secretariat Group. On Jan 5, the CSB took up promotion cases of the Pakistan Administrative Service and Federal Board of Revenue.

The board will submit its recommendations to Prime Minister Imran Khan and after his approval the Establishment Division will notify the promoted officers.
