GILGIT: The upper parts of Gilgit-Baltistan have received heavy snowfall, increasing problems of the people, as roads have been blocked and electricity supply disrupted.

Over two feet of snow has covered the upper areas of Skardu, Shigar, Kharmang, Ghanche, Ghizer, Astore, Hunza, Nagar and Diamer, dipping temperature to minus 20 degree Celsius.

The main Gilgit-Skardu Road has also been blocked.

Officials said basic commodities of life, including wheat and medicines, had already been dispatched to the snow-bound areas in Skardu, Astore and Hunza-Nagar districts.

Meanwhile, Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Khalid Khursheed Khan directed the relevant officials to take immediate measures to restore the road communication in the snow-bound areas.
