More deaths from Covid-19 in twin cities

ISLAMABAD: As many as seven people succumbed to coronavirus and 161 got infected in the twin cities on Tuesday.

Islamabad reported four deaths and 98 new cases while Rawalpindi saw three patients falling prey to the virus and 63 more testing positive.

Officials of the capital administration said the deceased were residents of I-8, Bhara Kahu, Tarlai and Chirrah.During the last 24 hours, 5,277 tests were conducted out of which 98 results came back positive, the officials said, adding that the positivity rate was recorded at 1.8pc.

On the other hand, three Covid-19 patients died while 32 more tested positive, with 63 people recovering in Rawalpindi district.

Khursheed Ghani, 80, a resident of Malpur Satellite Town, was brought to the Red Crescent Hospital on Jan 11 where he died on Tuesday. Akhtar Bibi, 65, from Gujar Khan, was brought to Hearts International Hospital on Jan 11 where she succumbed to the virus late Monday night. Naseem Akhtar, 67, also died at Hearts International Hospital on Tuesday.

According to statistics, the district has 464 active patients with 71 admitted to hospitals and 393 isolated at home.Commissioner retired Capt Mohammad Mehmood told Dawn that 10 critical patients were on ventilator, 32 required oxygen and 29 were stable. He said 16,076 people tested positive for Covid-19 out of whom 13,236 were in Rawalpindi, 1,137 in Attock, 1,154 in Jhelum and 549 in Chakwal.

He said 14,609 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering in the four districts and 688 died in Rawalpindi Division.
