Robbers loot bank branch in Khyber

KHYBER: Unidentified robbers looted Rs6.5 million from a bank branch in Bara tehsil of Khyber in daylight on Thursday.

Police said that four armed masked men came on two motorcycles and barged in a private bank while pushing the armed guard aside from the main gate.

They said the armed men took the bank staff hostage at gunpoint and collected the money from lockers and cash counter. They said the robbers decamped with Rs6.5 million.

The police said that they had started investigations after obtaining footages from the CCTV cameras installed at the bank.

The bank robbery is the first of its type in Bara.

Meanwhile, the district administration started an operation against use of polythene bags besides a cleanup operation in local markets of Khyber district.

The administration formed committees of the TMA staff, traders, students and civil society activists to help in cleansing the local markets, parks and educational institutions.

The officials said they had seized a big quantity of polythene bags in the operation.
