Kohat TMA, WSSC launch cleanliness drive

KOHAT: The tehsil municipal administration and the Water Supply and Sanitation Company (WSSC), Kohat, have launched a 10-day cleanliness campaign in the district on the orders of deputy commissioner.

The TMA has started cleaning the old bus stand Sasta bazaar, Hangu road, Rawalpindi road, Bannu road and other parts in its jurisdiction. Similarly, the WSSC has started cleaning drains in all the six urban union councils to allow easy flow of sewage.

On Thursday, the TMA of Darra Adamkhel subdivision lifted decades-old piles of garbage from Akhorwal area and disposed them of at a dumping place with the help of heavy machinery.

Speaking on the occasion, deputy commissioner Abdur Rehman said it was also the responsibility of the residents to keep their surroundings clean like their homes. He urged them to put dirt in the dustbins instead of throwing it in the streets which fell in the drains and choke them.

He praised the efforts of TMA and WSSC and hoped they would continue the clean and green drive.

KDA EMPLOYEES’ SALARIES: The employees of Kohat Development Authority (KDA) have urged the relevant provincial authorities to approve Rs6 million as consultant charges for the construction of Phase-II extension, which would facilitate timely payment of their salaries and generate funds for the organisation.

An official told this correspondent on condition of anonymity that last month they were paid salaries by selling extra land while for January all accounts had been exhausted.

He demanded sanction of commercial plazas, shops and flats in Phase-I and Phase II for generation of funds. He said that presently the income from transfer fee, planning and approval of maps, and flats and shops was not enough to run the KDA.
