Karachi port handles 1.9m tonnes of cargo

KARACHI: The Karachi Port Trust handled a total of 1.941 million tonnes of cargo comprising 326,869 tonnes of export and 867,501 tonnes of import during Jan 25-29.

The export cargo included 93,123 tonnes of clinkers followed by 24,168 tonnes of cement while oil and liquid cargo included 33,715 tonnes. Around 175,763 tonnes of containerised cargo was also handled.

In imports, oil and liquid cargo held a major share with 244,430 tonnes followed by 235,487 tonnes each comprising containerised and bulk cargoes. Import of canola, rock phosphate, soyabean seeds and wheat at the Karachi Port during the week stood at 29,543 tonnes, 27,409 tonnes, 28,762 tonnes respectively along with 57,018 tonnes of wheat.

Arrival of DAP and iron & steel scrap stood at 3,609 tonnes and 4,874 tonnes, respectively.
