Four of a family die on motorway in Swabi
SWABI: Four members of a family, including three women, hailing from Peshawar were killed and three others injured when two cars overturned after hitting each other on the Swat Motorway here on Sunday night, Rescue 1122 officials said.
They said the accident occurred due to over-speeding near the Ismaila Interchange.
Rescue 1122 personnel and locals pulled out four bodies and three injured from the cars and shifted them to a hospital in Mardan.
They said the family was travelling in two cars from Swat to Peshawar.
Those killed in the accident were identified as Zahir Shah, 60, Noreen Begum, 40, Nazameen Bibi, 54, and Roqiyya Bibi, 42. Saleem Khan, husband of Noreen Begum, was seriously injured in the accident.
Meanwhile, a motorcyclist was killed when a truck knocked him down on the Swabi-Jehangira Road. The deceased was identified as Kamran Khan of Nowshera district.
The truck driver escaped the scene, leaving behind the vehicle.
The Tordher police registered an FIR against him.
Separately, a container loaded with cotton bundles was turned into ashes on the Topi-Gadoon Amazai Industrial Estate Road, Rescue 1122 officials said.
The container was going to the industrial units. But when it reached near its destination it caught fire.
It was not clear as to how the container caught fire. No casualty was occurred as both the driver and the helper left the burning vehicle.
A local fire tender and Rescue 1122 staff took three hours to put out the fire.
