PPP wins Sanghar by-poll

SANGHAR: Jam Shabbir Ali, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate for the PS-43 Sanghar-III constituency, defeated his nearest rival Mushtaq Junejo of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) in Tuesday’s by-election with a huge margin, according to unofficial results.

The seat had fallen vacant after demise of MPA Jam Madad Ali and the PPP had awarded its ticket to his brother, Jam Shabbir Ali.

There was a lukewarm response from voters in the polling as no long queues were seen at most of the polling stations all day. At some polling stations only a handful of voters turned up.

There were seven candidates in the fray but the main contest was between the PPP and PTI candidates.

According to unofficial results, Jam Shabbir Ali polled 48,028 votes against Mushtaq Junejo’s 6,925 votes.

Sanghar Deputy Commissioner Dr Imran Khwaja and SSP Usman Ghani visited various polling stations and observed that the election process remained completely peaceful.
