Coast guards torch seized drugs

GWADAR: The Pakistan Coast Guards burnt drugs, including hashish, heroin, ice, crystal and morphine, as well as foreign-made liquor bottles and other seized items at a ceremony here on Thursday.

Drugs and liquor destro­yed on the occasion had been seized by the Coast Guards during different raids conducted on Arabian Sea and in the mountainous areas of Makran division.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor of Balochistan retired Justice Amanullah Khan Yasinzai praised the performance of the Coast Guards and said that it was playing a vital role in curbing drug smuggling and acting against the enemies.

He expressed the hope that the Coast Guards would continue to play its important role and make Pakistan a drug-free country.

General Officer Com­manding of 44 Division Maj Gen Aamir Anjum congratulated the officers and jawans of the force on successful operations against drug smugglers.

Director General of the Pakistan Coast Guards Brig Saqib Qamar said that the force had foiled many operations of international gangs of drug smugglers and seized a huge quantity of drugs.

He said that the drugs burnt include 33,500kg ha­­shish, 715kg heroin, 300kg crystal, 80kg ice and 16kg morphine. Besides, 46,000 bottles of liquor and 50 tonnes of betel nuts and Indian Gutka were also destroyed.

Sentra Kuhda Babar and former MNA Yaqoob Bizenjo also attended the ceremony.
