Powerpuff Girls live-action series

The CW (Television Network) has announced a pilot order for the live-action Powerpuff Girls series. Based on the Cartoon Network series created by Craig McCracken, the new series sees the pint-sized superheroes as disillusioned twentysomethings, who resent having lost their childhood to crime fighting. Will they agree to reunite now that the world needs them more than ever?

The project hails from writers and executive producers Heather Regnier and Diablo Cody, with Cody executive producing via Vita Vera Films.

The animated series ran for six seasons and 78 episodes between 1998 and 2005. “The Powerpuff Girls Movie” was released in 2002, while a rebooted animated series began airing on Cartoon Network in 2016.

Nasa’s rover lands safely on Mars

Nasa’s Mars rover Perseverance made a dangerous, robotic landing on Mars, starting a high-tech mission to hunt for signs of life in an ancient lakebed.

The landing marked the fifth Nasa rover to successfully reach Mars. The mission is the first of three that may return rock samples to Earth in about 10 years. The rover sent a series of brief, basic signals back to Earth. The spacecraft, launched from Kennedy Space Centre in Florida, travelled more than 290 million miles over 203 days to get to the Red Planet, and its landing was monitored by scientists all over the world.

The agency expects to receive transmissions that include video, sounds and photos recorded during descent and landing. Perseverance is “the biggest, heaviest, and most complex rover we’ve ever built” and the Jezero Crater destination “the most dangerous landing site we’ve ever attempted, said Alan Chen, Nasa’s lead engineer for the landing process.
