RAWALPINDI: For the first time since December, the twin cities reported highest numbers of deaths and new cases on Thursday.

In Rawalpindi, nine people died of the virus and 36 people tested positive while in Islamabad 231 new cases emerged with one death.

Ghazanfer Ali, 60, a resident of Mubarak Lane, was brought to Rawalpindi Institute of Urology (RIU) on Feb 15 where he died.

Khursheed Ali, 60, was admitted to Holy Family Hospital on Feb 22 and he died on Thursday. He was a resident of Dhoke Chiraghdin,

Afshan Allah Din, 42, of Dhoke Khana died at Fauji Foundation Hospital where she was admitted on Feb 27.

Shafiha Begum, 75, a resident of Burki Chohan Gujar Khan also died at Fauji Foundation Hospital. She was admitted there on March.

Nine patients succumb to virus in garrison city while capital reports 231 cases

Abdul Qadir, 40, a resident of Takhtpari, was admitted to Fauji Foundation Hospital on Feb 22.

Razia Begum, 82, died at the Isolation Hospital and Infectious Treatment Centre. She had been brought there on March 3 from Rajgan Sukhu Gujar Khan.

A 10-year-old boy, Saif Rafaqat, was brought to the Isolation Hospital and Infectious Treatment Centre from Taxila on March 3 but he also succumbed to the disease.

Zakir Ali, 67, a resident of Dhoke Sohan, died at the Rawalpindi Institute of Urology (RIU) where he was brought on March.

The other victim was Qadeer Mehrban, 60, a resident of New Katarian, who died at Pims.

On Dec 15, 2020, seven people had died of the virus and after almost two months the Rawalpindi district reported nine deaths on Wednesday.

There are 390 active patients in the district; 109 patients are in hospitals and 281 isolated in their homes. However, 446 patients are waiting for the results of their coronavirus serology.

Out of the total admitted Covid-19 patients, seven patients are from cantonment areas and 12 from Potohar Town and five from Rawal Town.

Six patients each are from Kotli Sattian while one each from Taxila and Gujar Khan. moreover, two patients arrived from Islamabad and one each from Azad Jammu and Kashmir, D.G. Khan and Gujrat.

As many as six patients are admitted in Holy Family Hospital, 17 in Benazir Bhutto Hospital, 32 in Rawalpindi Institute

of Urology, 21 in Fauji Foundation Hospital, three in Hearts International Hospital and five in Red Crescent Corona Care Hospital.

Commissioner Mohammad Mehmood told Dawn that 10 patients were on ventilators, 43 patients on oxygen and 31 were stable.

Islamabad

The capital city on Thursday reported one death and 231 new cases.

Officials said the 231 cases were the highest reported in the capital since Dec 24 when 238 people had been diagnosed with the virus.

The death of the Covid-19 patient, a woman, was reported in the age group of 60-69. She was a resident of Rawat.

During the last 24 hours, 5,766 tests were conducted and 130 males and 101 females tested positive and the positivity rate remained 4 per cent.

They said 41 cases each were reported in the age group of 20-29 and 30-39 followed by 38 in 50-59, 35 in 10-19, 32 in 40-49, 19 in 60-69, 13 in 0-9, 10 in 70-79 and two in 80 and above.

Likewise, 26 cases were reported from Loi Bher, 15 from Khanna, 14 from G-10, 13 from G-9, 12 from I-8, 11 from Bhara Kahu, 10 from G-7, nine each from I-10, Rawat, G-14, seven each from G-1, G-8, F-7, six each from E-11, Tarlai, F-8, five each from G-13, G-6, F-10, I-9, Kurri, four from Sohan, three each from F-11, H-13, two each from Chak Shahzad, F-6, Alipur, Kirpa, Phulgran, and one each from G-5, Model Town, Sihala, E-7, G-12, Bari Imam, H-10, Gokina, and Tarnol.

The tally of the confirmed cases in the capital reached 44,921 and so far 42,571 of them have recovered.

The death toll rose to 504 and there are currently 1,846 active cases.
