Narowal police still clueless about rapists
SIALKOT, Oct 13: Despite passage of three months and a deadline given by chief minister, police have yet to find any clue to the culprits involved in the gang-rape of a 15-year-old girl during a dacoity at Jandiyala-Zafarwal village of Shakargarh tehsil.
Reports said on the night between Aug 14 and 15, six armed men raped the daughter of farmer Ameen at gunpoint during a dacoity.
On Aug 19, taking a serious notice of the incident, Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi had visited the victim’s house, and besides giving a compensation cheque of Rs0.5 million to the girl, had suspended Narowal Saddar DSP and the entire staff of Zafarwal police station for their failure in arresting the accused. He had also given a 15-day deadline to the police for arresting the culprits.
Talking to journalists at Shakargarh on Thursday, Mr Amin appealed to the chief minister and IGP to order early arrest of the culprits, and alleged that Zafarwal police was using delaying tactics in arresting the dacoits-cum-rapists.
Mr Amin said he was determined to seek justice at any cost.
Earlier, the dacoits had looted the passengers of two wagons, besides several motorcyclists on main Jandiyala-Zafarwal Road.
The gang-rape incident had agitated the village residents who claimed that the police were timely informed about the dacoity but instead of taking any prompt action, the officials of Zafarwal police station admonished the informers, advising them to go back to their homes.
On Aug 15, hundreds of villagers besieged the police station, besides blocking traffic on main Zafarwal Road.
Narowal Investigation SP Amjad Karim Butt said the culprits would be arrested soon.
