ISLAMABAD: Two educational institutions in the capital were sealed after detection of 10 Covid-19 cases while three people died in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi where 200 infections were reported on Friday.

District Health Officer Islamabad Dr Zaeem Zia said seven cases were traced at F-7/3 Islamabad Model College for Boys (IMCB) and three at the IMCB, I-10/1. The colleges were sealed till further order for disinfection, he said.

Teams from the of district health office are tracing the contacts of the positive cases, he said.

Meanwhile, two more patients died in the capital while 157 new cases were reported on Friday.

The capital administration officials said the deaths were reported in the age groups of 50-59 and 70-79 and both were men and residents of Kurri and G-15.

During the last 24 hours, 4,803 tests were conducted which found the virus among 81 women and 76 men, the positivity rate was 3.2pc as against 4pc on Thursday.

The officials said 28 cases were reported in the age group of 30-39, followed by 27 in 40-49, 25 in 20-29, 21 in 50-59, 19 in 10-19, 16 in 0-9, 13 in 60-69, seven in 70-79 and one in 80 and above.

They said 15 cases were reported from F-11, 12 from G-11, 11 each from Loi Bher, Khanna, one from G-17, eight from G-10, seven each from I-8 and Barakahu, six each from I-10, G-13, Rawat, five each from E-11, G-6, Koral, four each from G-9, Tarlai, three each from G-8, Sohan, F-10, F-6, G-5, two each from I-9, Kurri, Chak Shahzad, D-12, E-18 and one each from F-8, F-7, G-14, Alipur, Sihala, F-5, Bari Imam, I-14, and H-8.

Rawalpindi

A man died from Covid-19 and 43 people tested positive in the Rawalpindi district.

Parveen Begum, 74, resident of Tipu Road, was brought to Holy Family Hospital on March 4 where she died on Friday.

According to the district health officials another 31 patients landed in hospitals from the garrison city including 11 from Cantonment, 13 from Potohar Town and seven from Rawal Town areas.

Besides, three patients arrived from Gujar Khan, two from Taxila and one from Kallar Syedan while three patients were brought from Islamabad, one from Chakwal and two from Gujrat.

At present, 470 active patients are in the district - 189 in hospitals and 281 isolated at homes.

Among Covid-19 patients from the city, five were admitted to Holy Family Hospital, 15 to Benazir Bhutto Hospital, 31 to Rawalpindi institute of Urology, 19 to Fauji Foundation Hospital, five to Red crescent Corona Care Centre and three to Hearts International Hospital.

Commissioner retired Capt Mohammad Mehmood told Dawn that 10 patients are in critical condition and on ventilators in Rawalpindi, 40 are on oxygen and 28 are stable.

He said that total 17,976 people of Rawalpindi division tested positive since March 2020.

6,868 frontline workers vaccinated

As many as 6,868 doctors and other frontline workers have so far been vaccinated against Covid-19 virus in four districts of Rawalpindi Division.

The commissioner total frontline health workers in the four districts were 10,515 - 5,951 belonged to Rawalpindi, 1,396 to Attock, 1,925 to Jhelum and 1,243to Chakwal.

“Among 6,868 vaccinated frontline workers, 3,375 are from Rawalpindi, 699 from Attock, 1,551 from Jhelum and 1,243 from Chakwal,” he said.
