Livestock dept gives away 200 poultry units in Kasur

KASUR: The district livestock department on Tuesday gave away 200 poultry units to applicants at a birds distribution ceremony at the Civil Veterinary Hospital.

The initiative has been taken under the prime minister’s backyard poultry programme.

District Coordinator for Green and Clean Program Qaisar Ayoub said that through the backyard poultry programme of the prime minister lower segments of society living in the suburban areas could add to their income and also fulfill their daily protein needs.

He said each applicant was given a set comprising five chickens and a cockerel through a lottery at concessional price of Rs1,050 per unit.

He also said the birds of indigenous breed fall in the age group of 85 to 90 days and would start laying eggs within few weeks. He said the birds would later be provided free medication.

GAMBLING DENS: District Police Officer Imran Kishwar says the district will be rid of gambling dens by special teams headed by SDPOs.

At a meeting here on Tuesday, the DPO said gambling dens were the breeding places for the criminals and safe havens for the drug users and sellers.
