Blue Beetle, DC’s first Latino superhero movie

DC’s Blue Beetle movie will be the first on the DC Films to star a Latino superhero. It was first floated back in the fall of 2018 and now Angel Manuel Soto is on board as director.

“I want to sincerely thank everyone at Warner Bros. and DC for trusting me to bring Jaime Reyes to life. I can’t wait to make history together,” said Soto.

The superhero known as Blue Beetle dates all the way back to the now-defunct Fox Comics in the late 1930s, but the character has done a fair bit of shuffling around to publishers over the decades.

LeBron James & 3D Bugs Bunny in Space Jam 2

New Space Jam: A New Legacy images highlight LeBron James and a 3D Bugs Bunny. The film is the long-gestating follow-up to the 1996 hit Space Jam, which saw NBA legend Michael Jordan team up with the Looney Tunes to win a basketball game.

With James in the starring role, the movie is a family film revolving around the relationship between James and his son Dom. There are no monsters here, the famous team of villains from the original, instead, the Tune Squad will be going up against the Goon Squad who have their own “powered-up roster of pros”.

Scheduled to release later this year, Space Jam: A New Legacy is one of the Warner Bros. films that will premiere on HBO Max the same day as theatres.

New animated movie, Luca

Pixar shared a poster for their upcoming Disney-Pixar animated film. The poster teases the secret of the title character, Luca, who appears to be a young human boy, but is actually a sea creature from an underwater world.

The movie follows Luca as he spends his summer on the Italian Riviera. He makes a friend, Alberto, but their fun is threatened by Luca’s secret.

“Childhood friendships often set the course of who we want to become, and it is those bonds that are at the heart of our story in Luca,” director Enrico Casarosa said. “So, in addition to the beauty and charm of the Italian seaside, our film will feature an unforgettable summer adventure that will fundamentally change Luca.”

Luca is slated for release June 18.
