CAA helped 235 relief flights

KARACHI, Oct 16: Some 235 flights carrying relief goods from various countries and donor agencies have so far arrived at the Islamabad airport. CAA spokesman Pervez George said that only five of the total 57 flights were diverted to different airports mainly owing to bad weather conditions in Islamabad. The five diverted flights were later called back after the weather was clear, he added.

He said that the Islamabad airport was made the focal point of the CAA coordination immediately after the quake, as nearly all flights bringing in passengers and aid started arriving in the capital.

The spokesman said a camp office of the CAA headquarters, manned by acting director-general and director operations, was established at Islamabad.
