ISLAMABAD: There was no letup in Covid-19 cases in Islamabad and Rawalpindi as the twin cities on Saturday reported 1,022 with six deaths.

Officials of the capital administration said that during the last 24 hours 7,591 tests were conducted

in the city, which showed 796 people had coronavirus with positivity rate remaining at 10.5pc, they added.

Two more deaths from Covid-19 were also reported in the capital taking the tally to 574. Both were women from the age groups of 60-69 and 80-89, The officials said, adding at present the capital had over 11,000 active cases.

Out of total 769 beds available for the Covid19 patients at 15 hospitals, 444 were occupied, they said, adding occupancy rate is 57.73pc.

Likewise, 105 ventilators are also allocated for the Covid-19 patients at 12 hospitals and out of the total 59 are occupied, they said, adding that the occupancy rate of the ventilators is 56.1pc.

Meanwhile, District Health Officer Dr Zaeem Zia also announced walk in vaccination for all the 65 plus citizens of the capital.

“We have ample capacity and doses and please reach now, our teams are waiting there,” he said.

“Good job done, we had good numbers walking in, but we need more,” he said, adding that 65 plus of Islamabad should walk to the centres and get the vaccination done.”

Rawalpindi

Four people died of Covid-19 in Rawalpindi district on Saturday while 226 patients tested positive of the deadly virus and 203 patients discharged from hospitals.

Mian Altaf, 85, resident of Afshan Colony, died at Rawalpindi Institute of Urology on Saturday where he was admitted to on April 1.

Mohammad Naseem, 60, resident of Eidgah Shareef, succumbed to the virus at District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital where she was brought on March 26.

Nighat Rauf, 69, resident of Gulistan Colony, arrived at Shifa International Hospital on April 2 where she lost battle against the infection on Saturday.

Javed Iqbal, 50, resident of Dhoke Bahar Shah, came to Quaid-i-Azam International Hospital on April 2 where he died on Saturday.

In Rawalpindi District, there are 2,285 active patients. Total 185 patients are in the hospitals while 68 belonging to other districts. Total 2,100 patients were isolated at their homes. However, total 642 patients are waiting their results of coronavirus serology.

The garrison city reported 155 cases whereas 45 patients were from cantonment areas and 68 from Potohar Town and 42 from Rawal Town.

The officials said 22 patients of Covid-19 arrived from Taxila, 11 from Gujar Khan, three from Murree while six arrived from Kallar Syedan, seven from Kahuta and eight from Kotli Sattian, Nine patients arrived from Islamabad, two from AJK and one patient each from Attock, Chakwal and Narowal.

The new patients of Covid-19 were admitted to different hospitals of Rawalpindi city including 30 patients admitted to Holy Family Hospital, 27 to Benazir Bhutto Hospital, 119 to Rawalpindi Institute of Urology and nine in Fauji Foundation Hospital.

Commissioner retired Capt Mohammad Mehmood told Dawn that there were 31 patients are on ventilators in Rawalpindi, 103 are on Oxygen and 51 are stable.

He said that there were 2,735 active Covid-19 patients in four districts of Rawalpindi division including 2,285 in Rawalpindi, 235 in Attock, 137 in Jhelum and 78 in Chakwal.

He said as many as 23,214 patients tested positive for Covid-19 since March 2020 in four districts including 18,927 in Rawalpindi, 1,611 in Attock, 1,899 in Jhelum and 777 in Chakwal.

He said that as many as 19,569 patients discharged from hospitals after recovery in the four districts including 15,886 in Rawalpindi, 1,345 in Attock, 1,712 in Jhelum and 626 in Chakwal.

He said that total 910 people died in Rawalpindi Division in last 12 months from Covid-19 pandemic including 756 in Rawalpindi, 31 in Attock, 50 in Jheulm and 73 in Chakwal.
