‘PRCS ready to serve people in tribal districts’

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Red Crescent Society is ready to serve the people in the tribal districts more than the rest of the country, says chairman of the society, Abrarul Haq.

During his visit to Pakistan Red Crescent Society headquarters for merged districts here, he said that Red Crescent had so far distributed water filtration kits among 5,500 families in tribal districts.

He said that water filtration kits would not only reduce diseases but would also increase awareness about hygiene among the local people. Mr Haq said that he had formed his organisation to serve people of the suburbs. He said that the process of reconstruction in tribal districts needed to be taken forward. He added institutions like Red Crescent were serving people in 192 countries.

Later on talking to journalists, he also announced to highlight the problems of tribal people through songs and said that he would like to sing in Pashto. “I am requesting the local singers to come and sing Pashto songs with me,” he added.

The chairman of Red Crescent for tribal districts, Asif Khan Mehsud said on the occasion that providing all possible facilities to tribal people was their first priority.

He said that issues of tribal people were awaiting attention of the authorities concerned.

Speaking on the occasion, the secretary of Red Crescent for tribal districts, Saeed Kamal said that Red Crescent served people in every difficult time. He said that the tribal district branch of Red Crescent was not only important but also its responsibilities were increased.

He said that the Red Crescent staff and volunteers were always ready to deal with any disaster. He said that Red Crescent provided facilities to four basic health units in Kurram and Khyber tribal districts.

Mr Kamal said that 61,000 patients were examined in those health facilities.
