HYDERABAD, Oct 18: The chairman of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz, Mr Basheer Qureshi, has called upon the Sindhi people and friends of Sindh to unite on one platform for launching a joint and consistent struggle against anti-Sindh projects.

He said that the people should get ready to besiege nazims and elected representatives who were openly supporting the anti-Sindh projects.

He was speaking as chief guest at the 21st death anniversary of five activists who were killed at Thori Phatak allegedly by law-enforcement agencies on October 17, 1984.

The anniversary function was organized by the Jeay Sindh Students Federation at the press club here on Monday evening.

He said that if the idea of Kalabagh dam was not abandoned and usurpation of the rights of Sindh was not stopped, the Sindhi youth would come out on the road.

Paying tribute to the Thori Phatak victims, Mr Qureshi said they had laid down their lives for the cause of Sindh and added that their sacrifices would not go in vain.

He said that innocent Sindhis were killed during the MRD movement.

He urged the Sindhis to follow the philosophy and ideology of G.M. Syed and jointly struggle for the survival of Sindh.

Mr Qureshi said the Sindhis were the true heirs of Sindh but all their resources, sovereignty, cities and villages had been usurped and Sindh had become a colony of Punjab and the Sindhis had been made slaves.

He said even the decisions of the Sindh Assembly were not being respected and the rulers of Punjab were trampling over the rights of the oppressed nations.

He said that after taking over all the resources of Sindh, they now wanted to take over the possession of Indus waters through the construction of Kalabagh dam and Thal canal.

He rejected reports of the technical committee on water resources and said the people of Sindh were the owners of Indus River.

He said that the followers of G.M.Syed believed in a peaceful struggle but the rulers had closed all doors.

JSSF president Sudhir Tunio said all educational institutions of Sindh had been handed over to agencies and demanded that security forces should be withdrawn from the institutions.

The others who spoke on the occasion and paid tribute to the victims of Thori Phatak included Dr Dodo Mehri, Dr Niaz Kalani, Senior journalist Parwano Bhatti, Sagar Hanif Burdi, Faqir Imdad Mangi, Aslam Khairpuri and Dr Zulfiqar Panhwar.
