Swabi town residents seek solar-powered streetlights

SWABI: The Shahmansoor Township Welfare Association has demanded of the Swabi Development Authority (SDA) to put all the streetlights on solar power and fix the drainage system in the urban area.

The demands were made by the association’s members during a meeting with the SDA officials here on Tuesday.

Shahmansoor Township is the only public sector housing society in the Swabi district managed by SDA.

Association’s pattern-in-chief Dr Gul Mohammad, Anwarzeb Khan, president Dr Waheed Alam Jan, senior vice-president Dr Sher Wali Khan and others were present during the meeting.

The association’s members demanded that the township’s graveyard should be cleared of wild growth and garbage and the land should be leveled to create space for more burials.

They said all the streetlights across the township should be powered through solar energy. They demanded construction of mosques in sector B and C, and increase in the number of security personnel at all the key points.

Speaking on the occasion, association’s pattern-in-chief Dr Gul Mohammad demanded pavement of streets and carpeting of roads and fixing of sewerage system. He also demanded giving the township the status of a village council.

Anwarzeb Khan stressed the need of collective efforts for welfare of the residents of the township.

The SDA officials assured the members of the association of fixing all the problems.

Separately, a man and a child were seriously injured when two motorcycles collided in Gadoon Amazai Industrial Estate on Tuesday.

The accident occurred on the Road No 2. Zard Ali Khan, a resident of Maneri, and three-year-old Rahimullah were injured.

They were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Swabi.
