PO, three arms smugglers held in Kohat

KOHAT: The Saddar police on Wednesday arrested a proclaimed offender, and three weapons smugglers along with arms and ammunition.

SHO Afzal Awan told journalists that PO Zahid Shah was wanted to police for injuring a man in his home town of Sheikhan.

The three weapons smugglers were identified as Bilal of Bahadar Kot and Abdul Samad and Niazmin Khan of Ahmed Nagar.

The recovery included a Bren gun, a 12-bore repeater, 12 pistols, 24 chargers and 126 cartridges.

In a separate development, the Ustarzai police have resolved the blind murder case of a young man by arresting two persons on Wednesday.

SHO Qismat Khan told reporters that the father of the victim had filed a report about the missing of his young son on April 6. However, he said the victim’s body was found in the mountains after a week.

The SHO said district police officer Sohail Khalid took notice of the case after the victim’s father had approached him.

He said a special team was formed which, on the basis of ground intelligence and statements of the victim’s friends, arrested two accused.

One of the accused told the police that the victim had a dispute with him as they liked the same girl. He said the victim had made a video when he (the accused) was with the girl, and was blackmailing him.

The accused told the police that they took the victim to a secluded place, shot him dead, and threw his body in the mountains.

The accused were presented before the reporters.

Also, the cantonment police arrested a man and seized 18 kilogrammes of hashish during search of a passenger coach at the Kaghzai checkpost on Wednesday. The contraband was being smuggled from Orakzai to Kohat.

SHO Amjid Hussain said the contraband was packed in packets and hidden in secret cavities made in the doors of the coach.

He identified the smuggler as Zubair Orakzai of Teerah.
