Most of new NAB references, inquiries go against Sindh officials
ISLAMABAD: A meeting of the Executive Board of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday approved four references, five investigations and 12 inquiries, mostly against officials of the Sindh government.
The meeting, presided over by NAB chairman retired Justice Javed Iqbal, authorised filing of four references against former secretary land utilisation, Sindh, Ghulam Mustafa Phal and others on allegations of illegally allotting state land in Malir district causing a loss of Rs12 billion to the exchequer.
Another reference will be filed against Saqib Soomro and others for illegally allotting state land by allegedly abusing their authority that inflicted a Rs1.5bn loss to the exchequer.
The meeting authorised filing of a supplementary reference against former chairman of Pakistan Steel Mills Moin Aftab Sheikh and others for allegedly causing a loss of Rs434.468 million through corrupt practices and abuse of authority.
It also approved a reference against former managing director of the Pakistan Electric Power Company Rasool Khan Mehsood and others for causing heavy losses to the exchequer by abusing their authority.
The meeting authorised inquiries against vice chancellor of Mehran University of Engineering and Science and Technology, Jamshoro; officials/officers of the Labour Department, Sindh; Sky Rooms Limited Company and others; Lucky Cement; officials/officers of the Land Utilisation Department, Sindh; former chief commissioner income tax, Hyderabad; chairmen of the Sindh Public Service Commission Noor Mohammad Jadmani; member Sindh Public Service Commission Ejaz Ali Khan Durrani and others; acting vice chancellor of Sindh University’s Badin campus Professor Dr Mohammad Siddique Kalhoro and others; chief engineer South, PWD; divisional accounts officer Ikramul Haq; divisional accounts officer Zafar Iqbal; XEN Pak PWD Karachi Siraj Nizam; former secretary of the Land Utilisation Department, Sindh, Ghulam Mustafa Phal; Gul Mohammad Jakhrani; officers and officials of the Board of Revenue, Karachi and others; former principal secretary to the Sindh governor Mumtazur Rehman; officers and officials of the Sindh Building Control Authority and others and director schools education, Karachi, Abdul Wahab Abbasi.
The meeting approved five investigations against officers of the Sindh Coal Authority; Pak Oasis and others and Syed Nusrat Shaukat.
Three investigations were approved against superintendent engineer, RBOD, Hyderabad Circle, Imran Sheikh and officers of the irrigation department, Hyderabad.
The meeting decided to close inquiries against owners/managers of Creek Marina Project, Karachi; former chairman NICL and others; officers of SBCA Master Plan Department Sindh; Haba Builders, Karachi and others due to lack of evidence.
It approved transferring investigations against officers of the customs department, Karachi to the Federal Board of Revenue after completion of a plea bargain deal.
The meeting was attended by the NAB deputy chairman, prosecutor general accountability, director general operations, director general rawalpindi and bureau’s other senior officers.
