Housing society owner sent to jail

ISLAMABAD: A judicial magistrate on Friday sent the owner of a private housing society to Adiala jail on 14-day judicial remand in a cheque dishonour case.

Civil judge/judicial magistrate Koral Humaira Afzal issued notices to police as well as the complainant against the owner of Ghauri Town Chaudhry Usman on the latter’s post-arrest bail plea for Monday.

The Koral police registered the First Information Report (FIR) against Mr Usman under section 489-F of the Pakistan Penal Code for issuing two ‘bogus’ cheques for Rs30 million to the complainant, Chaudhry Sudheer.

Interestingly, the complainant himself is facing an FIR in the same police station as he was seen in a viral video showing a group of armed men with automatic weapons taking possession of land in the capital’s suburb.

Mr Usman’s lawyer maintained before the court that the cheques were issued under an agreement which could not be materialised.

He said the accused was ready to pay the actual amount to the complainant subject to verification.

He suggested to the court to assume the arbitrator’s role in the cheque dishonour case and grant post-arrest bail to his client. The judge, however, was of the view that the case may be decided after hearing the complainant. Subsequently, further proceeding was adjourned till April 26.
