LAHORE: Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Information Dr Firdos Ashiq Awan on Saturday sought to dispel the impression that the Punjab government was reviving the patwar system by replacing ARCs.

In a statement, she said computerised land record system is being extended to village/revenue estate level in Punjab and there was absolutely no reverting back to manual land record system. She said that ARCs would continue to function as per their existing mandate and more computer literate village officers are being recruited.

She further said that currently there are only 152 Computerised Land Record Centers in Punjab at the tehsil level and the government is opening 8,000 Computerised Dehi Marakz-e-Mal where locals would be able to get documents and services at their doorstep.

CORRECTION: Apropos the report “Punjab revives old patwar system by replacing ARCs” published in Dawn on April 24, it was erroneously mentioned in the headline that ARCs are being replaced. The news report clearly states that the existing ARCs will remain intact and their workload will reduce under the new arrangement.
