ISLAMABAD: Four people died of Covid-19 and 270 new cases were reported in the capital on Saturday.

Officials of the capital administration said the death toll from the virus in the capital had reached 706. Of the four casualties, two were males and two females.

They were in the age group of 60-69, 70-79 and 80-89.

Two of the deceased were residents of Sohan and one each was from I-8 and Phulgran.

So far, the highest number of deaths - 212 - have been reported in the age group of 60-69 followed by 181 in 70-79, 118 in 50-59, 94 in 80-89, 22 in 40-49, 21 in 90-99, two in 20-29 and one each in 0-9 and 10-19.

In the last 24 hours, 3945 tests were conducted in the capital out of which 270 were found infected and the positivity rate remained 6.84 per cent.

270 new cases emerge in Islamabad and 96 in Rawalpindi

There were 11,001 active cases in the city and 224 of them were admitted in 16 hospitals.

Moreover, five expatriates arrived in the capital from abroad and were kept at isolation centres after they tested positive.

Since the outbreak of the virus in March 2020, 45347 males and 32067 females have tested positive. The highest number of positive cases - 16396 - was reported in the age group of 30-39, followed by 14298 in 20-29, 11947 in 40-49, 9679 in 50-59, 8113 in 0-9, 6499 in 10-19, 6316 in 60-69, 2712 in 70-79 and 993 in 80 and above.

Age groups of 461 positive cases were not known.

Rawalpindi

Slow Covid-19 testing at government health facilities has forced people to go to private laboratories and still 683 results are awaited in the city.

On Saturday, two patients died of Covid-19 while 96 people tested positive.

Moreover, 340 patients were discharged from hospitals. Total 950 suspected patients arrived in hospitals in the last 24 hours of whom 96 were found infected and 128 negative while the results of the remaining tests were awaited.

Afsar Khan, 74, resident of city, died at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences he was admitted since May 7.

Sahbun Nisa, 76, resident of Gulshan Colony Taxila, died at Dr Akbar Niazi Teaching Hospital where she was brought on May 7.

In Rawalpindi district, there are 1453 active patients and 159 of them are in hospitals and 1294 isolated in their homes.

However, 683 patients are waiting for their coronavirus serology results.

Officials said 64 of the new cases were reported from the garrison city - 17 from cantonment areas, 20 from Potohar Town and 27 from Rawal Town.

Moreover, 11 patients arrived from Gujar Khan, 13 from Kallar Syedan, one from Kotli Sattian and two each from Murree, Islamabad and AJK and one from Jhelum.

Of the new patients, 30 were admitted in Holy Family Hospital, 29 in Benazir Bhutto Hospital, 68 in Rawalpindi Institute of Urology, 23 in Fauji Foundation Hospital, seven in Hearts International Hospital and two in Begum Akhter Rukhsana Hospital.

There are eight patients on ventilators, 113 on oxygen and 38 are stable.

Attock

In Attock district, 22 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the tally in the district to 2055.

District focal person for Covid-19 Dr Kashif Hussain said 20 of the new cases were reported from Attock city and one each from Fatehjang and Hassanabdal.

There are 168 active patients in the district and 163 are home isolated and five hospitalised.

Responding to a question, he said results of 105 suspected patients were awaited. So far, 1848 patients have recovered from the disease.— Additional reporting by Amjad Iqbal
