ISLAMABAD: The capital administration is establishing more Covid-19 vaccination centres in the city to facilitate people and carry out the inoculation process smoothly, sources told Dawn.

On the other hand, 10 people lost their battle against Covid-19 in Rawalpindi and Islamabad during the last 24 hours.

Officials of the capital administration said they were getting complaints that some centres closed before the official time and turned people back without administering them the vaccine.

The timing of the vaccination centre is from 8am to 3pm and then from 8:30pm to 12 midnight.

A senior officer of the administration, on condition of anonymity, said the centres in Islamabad were working from 8am to 3pm, but there were complaints that some stopped entertaining visitors before 2pm.

People get registered through SMS sent to 1166, he said, adding that after a few days, people receive a reply in which the schedule, date, vaccination centre and code were mentioned.

Besides, the message also informed the senders that they can get vaccinated from any centre, the officer said, adding that the schedule was also shared with the District Health Office and vaccination centres informing them about the number of people who would visit them for vaccination.

At Pims, token is given to people for vaccination till 11am, they said, adding that those who get the token were vaccinated, while those who came after 11am were asked to come some other day.

When contacted, Pims spokesman Dr Wasim Khawaja told Dawn that 700 to 1,000 tokens were issued from 8am to 11am.

Due to the rush, issuance of tokens was stopped to vaccinate those people who had the tokens before the closing time, he added.

District Health Officer Dr Zaeem Zia, when contacted, said the issue was brought to the knowledge of the authorities concerned.

Meanwhile, seven people died from the virus in the capital during the last 24 hours and 226 more got infected.

Officials said two deaths were reported on Sunday. Both deceased belonged to the age group of 80-89 and were residents of F-11 and Chak Shahzad.

They said seven deaths were reported on Monday, adding that two deceased – one man and woman – were in the age group of 50-59 and 80-89 – two women were in their 60s while another woman was in her 30s.

The officials said three of them were residents of E-11, while the others were from Tarlai, Bhara Kahu, G-7 and F-10.

As many as 226 people were found infected out of the 2,816 tests conducted during the last 24 hours, the officials said, adding that the positivity rate was recorded at 8.02pc.

Rawalpindi

Three patients breathed their last in Rawalpindi district on Monday while 71 tested positive. As many as 113 patients were discharged from the hospitals after recovering from the deadly virus.

Anwar Jan, 89, a resident of Kahuta, was brought to Dr Akbar Niazi Teaching Hospital on May 9 where she died on Monday.

Sabeeha Jan, 65, from Gulzar-i-Quaid, was admitted to Fauji Foundation Hospital on May 9 where she succumbed to the virus on Monday.

Amro Bibi, 79, from Arya Mohallah, died at Quaid-i-Azam International Hospital on Monday.

In Rawalpindi district, there are 1,361 active patients out of whom 131 patients were under treatment in hospitals. As many as 683 patients are waiting for their results for Covid-19 serology for the last one week.

A total of 71 new patients surfaced in the district, majority of whom were from the garrison city.

According to the breakdown, 19 patients were from the cantonment areas, 10 from Potohar Town, 25 from Rawal Town, 14 arrived from Taxila, one from Kahuta and two from Murree.

As many as 30 new patients were shifted to Holy Family Hospital, 22 to Benazir Bhutto Hospital, 57 to Rawalpindi Institute of Urology, 14 to Fauji Foundation Hospital, seven to Hearts International Hospital and one to Begum Akhtar Rukhsana Hospital.

There are seven patients on ventilators in Rawalpindi, 94 on oxygen and 30 are stable.

Attock

Six more tested positive in a single day in the district, taking the tally to 2,067.

According to health authorities, six patients have died of Covid-19 this month and 90 have been infected so far.

District focal person for Covid-19 Dr Kashif Hussain told mediapersons that among the new patients, three were from Pindigheb, two from Attock city and one was from Hazro.

He said the number of active patients in the district was 180 out of which 175 were isolated at home.

Giving details of the active patients, he said there were 127 patients in Attock city, 16 in Jand, 15 in Hazro, 12 in Pindigheb, three in Hassanabdal and three in Fatehjang.

He said the number of suspected patients in the district had risen to 33,338.

Responding to a question, he said the results of 238 suspected patients were awaited, adding that so far 1,848 people had recovered from the virus.— Additional reporting by Amjad Iqbal
