ISLAMABAD: As many as 13 people succumbed to Covid-19 in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad during the three days of Eidul Fitr.

Officials said nine deaths were reported in the capital and four in the garrison city.

Moreover, 467 people were found infected in Islamabad and 114 in Rawalpindi.

Officials of the capital administration said 165 cases and four deaths were reported on May 13, 244 cases and two deaths on May 14 and 58 cases and three deaths on May 15 in Islamabad.

On Saturday, two women in the age group of 50-59 and 70-79 and a man aged between 60 and 69 years lost their lives. They were residents of G-8 and F-17.

Two deaths were reported on Friday and both were males aged between 50-59 and 80-89 years and residents of I-10 and I-9.

Islamabad reports 467 and Rawalpindi 114 new cases in three days

One male and one female in the age group of 50-59, a male in the age group of 60-69 and a female in the age group of 70-79 died on Wednesday. They were residents of G-6, G-11, F-11 and G-8.

On Thursday, 2,896 tests were conducted and 165 people were found infected, showing a 5.7 per cent positivity rate. On Friday, 2,620 tests were conducted and 244 people tested positive with the positivity rate of 9.3pc.On Saturday, out of 1,461 tests, 58 people were found infected and the positivity rate remained 3.9pc.

Rawalpindi

Four Covid-19 patients died during the three days of Eidul Fitr and 114 people tested positive while 71 patients were discharged from hospitals.

Mohammad Zaman, 60, resident of Bistral village, was admitted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences on May 12 where he died. Akhter Nawaz Abbasi, 54, resident of Sadiqabad, arrived at Isolation Hospital and Infection Treatment Centre on May 12 where he died. Mohammad Ibrahim, 73, resident of Adiala Road, died at Quaid-i-Azam International Hospital and Shamim Bibi, 65, of Mohallah Haripura, at Pims. There are 973 active patients in the district - 109 in hospitals and 864 home isolated. As many as 665 patients are waiting for the results of their Covid-19 serology.

Of the new cases, 29 were reported from the cantonment, 28 from Potohar Town and 34 from Rawal Town.

Moreover, nine patients arrived from Taxila, three each from Kallar Syedan and Kahuta and two from Murree.

Officials said 15 of the new patients were admitted in Holy Family Hospital, 26 in Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH), 47 in Rawalpindi Institute of Urology (RIU), 14 in Fauji Foundation Hospital (FFH), six in Hearts International Hospital and one in Begum Akhter Rukhsana Hospital.

There are six patients on ventilators, 74 on oxygen and 29 are stable.

According to data submitted to Commissioner Syed Gulzar Hussain Shah, the positivity rate in the last 24 hours remained 10.37 per cent in Rawalpindi district, 9.09pc in Chakwal, 6.63pc in Attock while no positive case was detected in Jhelum.

In the last 13 months, 30,810 people tested positive in the four districts - 25,155 in Rawalpindi, 2,100 in Attock, 2,286 in Jhelum and 1269 in Chakwal. As many as 1111 people died in the Rawalpindi division - 926 in Rawalpindi district, 40 in Attock, 65 in Jhelum and 80 in Chakwal.

Meanwhile, the district administration imposed Rs84,000 fines on violators of the standard operating procedures (SOPs). Officials said 10 shops and nine restaurants were sealed and fines of Rs24, 000, Rs48,000 were imposed on shops and restaurants. Moreover, Rs4,000 fines were imposed on citizens for not wearing masks in public places.
