Sialkot case: other eyewitnesses summoned

GUJRANWALA, Oct 22: The Anti-Terrorism Court No 1 continued hearing of the Sialkot jail case while the defence counsel completed cross-questioning on the statement of district and sessions judge Chaudhry Zafar Husain here on Saturday.

Chaudhry Zafar Husain alleged that the police did not wait for the Lahore High Court orders with regard to taking any action. He said it was the duty of jail officers to provide security to the visiting judges, but they slipped away when culprits took the law officers hostage.

Mr Husain claimed that doctors and blood were not available when the injured judges were brought to hospital. He further alleged that civil judge Sheharyar Bukhari succumbed to his injuries owing to the laxity of doctors of Allama Iqbal Memorial Hospital.

He ruled out any complaint against former district jail superintendent Sikandar Hayat as, according to Mr Husain, the official visited the jail four times in his presence.

Meanwhile, judge Mujahid Mustaqin Ahmad adjourned the case till Oct 28 and summoned other eyewitnesses for recording their statement.

CRUSHED: An elementary school student was crushed to death by a speeding bus on Wazirabad-Sialkot Road on Saturday.

Deceased Rizwan Ahmad was trying to board the moving bus, but he could not maintain his balance and was crushed under the wheels of the same bus. The driver managed to escape from the scene when students gathered there.

Police have instituted a case against the driver and conductor.
