Tareen group discusses future strategy today

LAHORE: The parliamentarians belonging to Jahangir Tareen group, after holding “successful” meetings with the Punjab chief minister and the federal information and broadcasting minister, plans to evolve an effective future strategy to gain maximum benefits in the days to come.

“The Tareen group is meeting again on Tuesday (today) to review its performance during the past week in terms of convincing the Punjab and federal governments that they are being victimised in their own party’s government,” a Tareen group MPA told Dawn on Monday.

Another member said the pro-Tareen parliamentarians had held a successful meeting with Chief Minister Usman Buzdar and got an assurance that its demands regarding development works in their respective constituencies should be met on a priority basis.

The member said the chief minister was also apprised that the loyal workers of different MPAs affiliated with the group were being harassed by implicating them in different cases.

One of the lawmakers expressed his concern that the group’s joint stance and voice was not being properly conveyed through the media as different group members appearing in various talk shows sometimes made contradictory statements.

“We have plans to suggest in the next meeting that Jahangir Tareen should nominate spokespersons and give them a clear line to interact with media persons in an effective manner,” he said.

Another member said they would develop a joint future strategy and correct certain things that did not work well. He added the group neither wanted to embarrass the government, nor it expected to be treated that way.

The group usually meets a day before or immediately after Mr Tareen’s court appearances, but for the first time it will hold a meeting about a week ahead of their leader’s appearance in both Banking and Sessions courts, scheduled for May 31.
