Rs440m projects approved for Bannu university

LAKKI MARWAT: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved development schemes worth Rs440 million for the University of Science and Technology, Bannu, said the varsity’s director planning Mohammad Nawaz Khan on Friday.

Talking to mediapersons, he said the varsity’s vice-chancellor, Prof Dr Kheruzzaman, had approached the provincial government to seek approval for several development projects.

“The new schemes include construction of the first and second floors of the academic block, over one kilometre road and an overhead water tank,” he said, adding that sufficient funds would be spent on installation of power transformer, water supply and construction of drainage system in the university.

He said the completion of uplift works would pave the way for launch of the civil and petroleum engineering, pharmacy and law departments in the university.

KILLED: A man was killed over a blood feud in Nali Chak area of Naurang town here on Friday.

Police said that rivals attacked Sakhi Zaman, 35, while he was going to Naurang city on his motorcycle. They said Zaman, a resident of Tap Mammakhel, sustained serious bullet wounds and died instantly.

Police said that the attackers fled on their motorcycle and later Shaheed Haibat Ali Khan police arrested one of them, identified as Bawer Khan.

Samidullah, brother of the deceased, told police that the rivals, including Saifur Rehman and Bawer Khan who were on a motorcycle, intercepted their brother Zaman on a pistol point.

He claimed that Bawer Khan opened fire on Zaman, killing him on the spot. Police said they had registered a case against the alleged attackers.

TEACHERS PROMOTED: Lakki Marwat district education officer Zahoor Khan promoted 90 primary schoolteachers to the posts of senior primary schoolteachers (BPS-14) on Friday.

An official said that the promotions were made on the recommendation of departmental promotion committee. He said the newly-promoted teachers had been adjusted against vacant posts of senior teachers in the primary schools. He said that these teachers would remain on probation for one year.
