Covid-19 — the other side

This is regarding the article, “Covid-19 — the other side” by Rhea Faisal (YW, May 1, 2021). I found its topic intriguing. Life during the Covid-19 pandemic is depressing; however, the way the writer tried to make us look at the bright side of the situation was impressive.

Nevertheless, I disagree with the writer when she says, “Covid-19 had actually been a blessing in disguise for us.”

The arguments presented though seemingly well-put together, are still not true for everyone. Not everyone enjoyed the time even in the starting days of the lockdown. The writer forgot to consider the fact that people’s loved ones were dying and suffering; the deaths affected the mental health of people. People lost their jobs because of the lockdown and many did not have enough money to buy food, pay bills.

Moreover, online schooling has not allowed us to study at our own pace, as the writer claims, but worsened the conditions and discouraged many students because they do not have access to the internet or electronic gadgets.

Therefore, I believe the writer’s arguments don’t make much sense. In my opinion, Covid-19 can be anything but a blessing in disguise.

Mums and us

This is with reference to the cover story “Mums and us” by Ambreen Arshad (YW, May 8). I really liked the article. The types of kids described in the article are all true and many of us can relate to them.

I have a brother whom I would call “a weepy kid”, he knows just how to make our mum soft towards him only.

But as mums have no match, we should respect and love them always, and make them feel that they are special in our lives ‘every day’. We should celebrate each day as Mother’s Day.

The article “Mums and us” by Ambreen Arshad was a wonderful piece of writing.

The article was different from the typical ones that we read on how to make our mothers feel special on this day.

Instead, it described the types of kids we are and how we bring changes in our mothers’ life according to our nature and behaviour.

I appreciate the writer and applaud the YW magazine for giving us unique pieces of writing every week.
