KSF, KVTC, Essa Lab honour gold medal-winning special athletes

KARACHI: The Karachi Vocational Training Centre (KVTC), Essa Laboratory and the Karachi Sports Foundation (KSF) jointly honoured special athletes Abid Khan Achakzai, Yasir Mumtaz and Hamza Hassan of KVTC who bagged gold medals at the 17th WATA Para Taekwondo Championship in Osaka, Japan, besides 40 athletes who won at different international and national events here on Saturday.

On the occasion, Prof Dr Farhan Essa Abdullah, Governor Rotary Inter­national & CEO Essa Lab, lauded the superb show put in by the special athletes.

“These special kids are a key part of our society and Allah has bestowed them with many abilities,” he said. “Our special kids have not just excelled in academics, IT sector, and other fields but have also proven their potential with their performances in different sports and have brought glory for Pakistan.”

Dr Farhan further said winning medals at international events will boost the morale and sporting spirit of other special athletes and in this regard the role of KVTC services is a shining example for everyone.

Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan, CEO KVTC, said these special kids are in no way any less than any other people.

“They are not challenged but are differently able compared to others. They are super kids and have brought laurels for the country.”

Haseeb further said: “We should train them in skills for all aspects of life.”

KSF chairman Asif Azeem said these young and talented athletes are the pride of our nation.

“When they represent Pakistan at international events and raise the national flag, that is the best moment for any sports lover. The credit also goes to their coaches and trainers because they are the reason our athletes stand on victory podium.”

Also present on the occasion were POA Environment Commission member Tehmina Asif and KSF president Syed Waseem Hashmi.

Later, the dignitaries distributed medals and gift hampers among the medal holders while Prof. Dr. Farhan Essa announced Rs5,000 cash prize for each medal winner and Rs50,000 for the Karachi Vocational Training Centre.
