Polio vaccination campaign begins in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI: Though polio vaccination drive will start in the district from Monday (tomorrow), Deputy Commissioner Aamir Aqiq Khan inaugurated the campaign on Saturday by administering polio drops to children in the office of health services director.

Speaking on the occasion, he said due to coordinated efforts of all government departments in the past, we have not witnessed any polio case in Rawalpindi for almost a decade.

He said the provision of healthy environment to citizen was our foremost priority.

He said people’s cooperation with the government departments a prerequisite for making the region polio-free.

He said they were also launching awareness campaigns to address the reservations of people and myths attached to the vaccination which had affected the results of anti-polio activities.

District Health Authority Chief Executive Officer Dr Faiza Kanwal and the representative of allied departments and other officers concerned were also present on this occasion.

Sharing details of arrangement for anti-polio campaign, health officials said a target to vaccinate 718,000 children  has been fixed.

Moreover, 2,864 mobile teams and 307 fixed points and 129 transit points have been established.

They said that a total 3,400 teams had been designated for this task and health officer will monitor the progress of campaign besides security will also be provided to vaccinators.
