UET senate meeting held after 3.5 years
LAHORE: The 36th meeting of the senate of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) was held on Saturday after a delay of over three-and-a-half years.
The Senate is supposed to meet at least twice every year under the UET Act 1974; however, it failed to fulfill the legal requirement after its 35th meeting on Aug 28, 2017.
Governor Chaudhry Sarwar chaired the meeting held at Seminar Hall of Chemical Engineering Department. UET Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar presented the annual report of the university.
The meeting approved the appointment of various faculty members. The statues to upgrade the meritorious professors and change in the procedure for appointment of technical and non-technical staff were also approved.
The meeting deferred the regularisation of contract lecturers due to objections of the secretary finance department and sent it back to the syndicate for a review while timescale promotion statutes for the university officers (other than faculty) and tenure track statutes were adopted.
The senate members showed reservation over holding its meeting after three-and-a-half years while Vice Chancellor Mr Sarwar replied that the senate members were not available for the meeting and he was committed to convene the senate meeting twice a year.
Later, the an election was conducted to elect two members of the senate to the syndicate and Prof Dr Tauseef and Prof Dr Farhat won the election for the syndicate seats.
