Freight train wagon derails at Khanpur
RAHIM YAR KHAN: A freight train wagon derailed at the Khanpur Railway Station after its axle of broke on Saturday.
The wagon damaged the platform number 2 of the railway station as it climbed on it. The rail traffic remained suspended on down track for some hours.
According to railway sources, Yousufwala Coal (ZBKH) goods train was going to Port Qasim in Karachi for loading coal. When it reached Khanpur after 8am, its wagon derailed and hit the platform.
Pakistan Railways Khanpur Assistant Engineer Muhammad Raheel told Dawn the track was cleared and traffic was restored at 11am. He said a rescue truck had arrived, which would start the rescue activities and added that a relief train had been called from Rohri, which would remove the wagon from the platform.
It was the fourth accident of train derailment in the Rahim Yar Khan region during last two months. The sources said there were some technical problems within the jurisdiction of the Sukkur railway division, which was the main cause of the train derailments in the Rahim Yar Khan area. Besides, the drivers of some goods trains did not follow the speed limit rule.
