Teen tortured to death by police

SARGODHA: A teenager was allegedly tortured to death by the Sillanwali police who arrested him on a complaint.

Muhammad Asim, 14, a resident of Islampura, Sillanwali worked as an apprentice at a tailoring shop and police arrested him on the complaint of Amjad Khichi of Chak 142-NB.

ASI Imran and Head Constable Asad Abbas allegedly kept the boy at their private torture cell and tortured him for five days and handed him over to the family when his condition deteriorated.

The family took the boy to hospital where he was pronounced dead. The doctors said the boy had died due to torture as his kidney failed and urinary bladder ruptured.

The bereaved family put the body on the main Satellite Town road and staged a protest in the scorching heat. Police did not bother to take notice of the protest for two hours but when the news of protest was aired, the DSP investigation along with his team reached the spot and assured the family that they would have the postmortem of the boy and register a case against those responsible for the torture.

Chief Minister Usman Buzdar took notice of the incident and sought a report from the regional police officer.

SHOT DEAD: A man was shot dead at Khumb Nau in the Midha Ranjha police station jurisdiction about 40 kilometres from here on Tuesday morning.

Police said the murder was the outcome of the deceased’s relations with the wife of one of the assailants.

STUDENTS’ CONCERN: Schoolchildren are facing a great deal of inconvenience due to wearing masks in high temperature and humidity.

Muhammad Ali, the father of 5th class student, expressed his concern over the decision to open schools in the heatwave.

A schoolteacher claims the current weather and loadshedding are making things difficult for the teachers and the taught to study.
