6-8 hour power outages persist in Lesco areas

LAHORE: A number of areas of Lahore and its adjoining districts continued facing power loadshedding on Thursday, leaving the consumers at the mercy of the ongoing heatwave.

“We are experiencing six to eight hours loadshedding, and the Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) officials concerned seem helpless to resolve this issue,” deplored a consumer from Township area.

According to a Lesco source, the company’s peak demand crossed 5,000MW and 4,800MW on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, but the power allocation to the distribution company from the national grid remained up to 4,200MW.

He said the company was facing a shortfall of 800MW or so these days, blaming the shortfall for the forced loadshedding.

He said another reason behind the power shortfall in the country was the lesser generation at Tarbela due to sedimentation issue and the nonpayment to Independent Power Producers (IPPs).

Lesco Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Chaudhry Amin was not available for his comments.
