Two awarded life term over Mardan lawyer’s murder
MARDAN: The district and sessions judge, Mardan, on Thursday awarded life imprisonment to a man and his son in the murder case of ex-vice president of district bar association Zaib Alam Khan advocate.
Judge Kamal Hussain Shah announced the order of life imprisonment for the convicts Malik Fayyaz Khan and his son Malik Azam Khan when senior counsel Arif Rasul Khan advocate proved the murder charges against them.
Zaib Alam was killed over a land dispute by his maternal uncle Fayyaz Khan and his son Azam Khan in 2017 when he was on his way to Mardan courts.
The legal fraternity has lauded the decision, saying that the family of the victim advocate got justice at last.
VARSITY UPLIFT: The Higher Education Commission has approved two development projects for Women University, Mardan, said sources in the varsity here on Thursday.
The relevant officials told this correspondent that the HEC had approved two projects for the varsity in its annual budget for financial year 2021-22.
They claimed that a total of Rs1.5 billion would be released over next three years for the two projects. They said the projects included hostel and transport facilities for female students, which would cost Rs550 million, and provision of admin and allied facilities at the cost 952.87 million.
They said that these plans were tabled at Departmental Development Working Party’s meeting on March 11 and 31, 2021, respectively. They said that during the meeting Prof Dr Ghazala Yasmin raised the problems being faced by the girl students from far-flung areas.
According to the varsity’s planning and development department, the government had initially set aside Rs450 million for the two projects.
