HYDERABAD: 13 MPAs named on sugar cess bodies
HYDERABAD, Oct 26: The government of Sindh has nominated 13 MPAs as members of the district sugarcane cess zonal committees. According to a notification of the agriculture department, Kareem Dino Shah Sherazi has been nominated from the Thatta district, Mohammad Naeem Ishtiaque from Hyderabad, Syed Ali Bux Shah from Badin, Shabbir Ahmed Qaimkhani from Mirpurkhas, Mahi Khan Wassan from Sanghar, Rani Ambreen Jan from Nawabshah, Farhad Zaman Jatoi from Naushahro Feroze, Ehsan Ali Jatoi from Dadu, Gulzar Unnar from Khairpur, Faiz Mohammad Mahar from Sukkur, Abdul Razak Mahar from Ghotki, Zulfikar Ali Kamario from Shikarpur and Altaf Hussain Unnar from Larkana.
MPHIL: The director of graduate studies at the University of Sindh announced the schedule for admissions to the master of philosophy (MPhil) programme here on Wednesday for the session of 2006.
According to the announcement, admission forms for the disciplines of Sindhi, Urdu, Commerce, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Botany, Fresh Water Biology and Fisheries, Geology, Pharmacy, Physics, Statistics, Zoology, Economics, Health and Physical Education, International Relations, Pakistan Studies, Sociology and Sindh Development Studies will be available from November 1, 2005, from the HBL branches of Hyderabad (old campus) and Jamshoro.
He said that candidates can also download the application forms from the Sindh University website, www.usindh.edu.pk.
The last date for submission of the forms is November 26, 2005.
The admission test will be conducted on December 4, 2005, and the result will be announced on December 10, 2005.
Meanwhile, the admissions director also announced the admission schedule for the MSc (Rural Development) external programme for the session of 2005-2006.
The admission forms and other informations can be downloaded from the university website.
The fee of Rs200 should be submitted with the form in favour of the admissions director of the university.
According to the schedule, the forms will be available from November 1, 2005, to December 17, 2005.
Candidates have to submit the forms during the same period.
The candidates can also purchase the forms from the administrative officer by sending a self addressed envelope with a bank draft of Rs200 drawn on the Jamshoro branch of HBL.
SAU: The controller of examinations of the Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam, announced here on Wednesday that the supplementary examinations of the first and second term students for the academic year of 2003-04 will commence from November 15.
The students of BSc, BE and DVM of the university and the Z. A. Bhutto Agriculture College, Dokri, have been advised to submit their examination forms with the normal fee till November 11, 2005.
Late fee of Rs150 will be charged between November 12 and November 14 while the late fee of Rs1,000 will be charged after the 14 of November till commencement of the examinations.
The controller has announced that the new admissions were in progress and that the last date for depositing the admission forms with the normal fee is November 2, 2005.
TOMATO GROWERS: Agriculture scientists of the Sindh Agriculture Department have advised the growers to monitor their tomato crop weekly against the infestation of mealy bug pest, which is reported to have shifted from the cotton crop in the Kot Ghulam Mohammad area.
A spokesman for the Directorate of Information, Sindh, in a statement issued here on Wednesday said that the crop may be sprayed under guidance of the agriculture extension staff with Profenofos one litre per acre or Acephate 750 grams per acre, with repeated sprays every five days if infestation is noticed.
Same insecticides may not be repeated, but other recommended insecticides should be applied alternately with proper dosage, he added.
He said for mealy bug control, the high pressure sprayer machine is required as such knapsack power sprayers may be used only on affected spots immediately after appearance.
On farmers’ complaints, the scientists also surveyed mango and Chiku orchards but found the infestation of mealy bug at a negligible level, the spokesman said.
He said for cotton crop, the scientists have trained the farmers of the affected areas and were satisfied that farmers can now control the bug at the initial stage of infestation and avert losses in the cotton crop in future.
MUET: The vice-chancellor of the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro, Prof (Dr) Abdul Qadeer Khan Rajput has stressed the need and importance of research and urged the scientists to concentrate on research.
The workshop was organized by the library and On-line information centre (MUET) in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission Islam-abad under the digital library programme.
The vice chancellor said that it was a matter of pride that 38 faculty members have been registered in PhD programme.
Ms Mumtaz Memon, the librarian at the Muet, emphasized on the importance of information technology.
