SHC rejects Aijaz Jakhrani’s pre-arrest bail plea

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Friday dismissed former federal minister Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani’s petition for his pre-arrest bail in the investigations being conducted by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

A two-judge bench headed by Justice Yousuf Ali Sayeed observed that an identical petition and a review application by the petitioner had already been rejected by high court whereas the apex court had also dismissed his civil petition for not being pressed.

It found contention of the petitioner’s lawyer, that this petition was against a different investigation, incorrect saying that it did not disclose any fresh ground.

The NAB investigation pertains to alleged corruption in the education works department, Jacobabad. The petitioner had also sought his pre-arrest bail in any other hidden inquiry/investigation.

According to NAB, investigation against Mr Jakhrani was authorised in 2018 after a complainant approached Supreme Court against his alleged involvement in misappropriation of development funds meant for Jacobabad district.
