Two ‘house robbers of Afghan gang’ killed in Malir encounter

KARACHI: Police killed two suspected robbers in an alleged encounter on National Highway in Malir early on Monday morning.

Ferozeabad SHO Aurangzeb Khattak said that five robbers were travelling in a Toyota Corolla car when a police patrol signalled them to stop at Nursery on Sharea Faisal. Instead, they opened fire on the police and during an exchange of fire one of the suspects suffered bullet wounds.

He said that the robbers tried to speed away and police chased the vehicle from Nursery to Malir City, where in an ensuing encounter two more suspects got injured. Three suspects were arrested while remaining two managed to escape, he added.

The wounded suspects were taken to the JPMC, where two of them, identified as Jumma Khan and Naimat, were pronounced dead while Mehmood Khan got admitted for treatment.

The police recovered three 9mm pistols, seven mobile phones and the car from them.

The SHO said the robbers belonged to an “Afghan gang of house robbers”.

Jumma Khan was arrested by the Ferozeabad police in 2019 but he got released on bail and was an absconder in three robbery cases.

Two shot dead in city

A man was shot dead near Al-Karam Square in Liaquatabad on Monday, according to police.

Sharifabad SHO Abdul Khaliq Ansari said that Aizaz Shaikh, 32, was heading to his workplace on a motorcycle when unknown assailants fired at him and escaped.

He was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

He said the victim was living with his younger brother in Nazimabad as their father had passed away. He worked at a textile mill.

A murder case was registered on the complaint of the deceased’s cousin, who told the police that they did not have enmity with anyone.

Meanwhile, a 30-year-old man was shot dead and a 12-year-old boy wounded in Korangi early on Monday morning.

Police said that Mohammed Fida was killed while Akbar Qasim hurt at Bilal Chowrangi near Lal Masjid.

Awami Colony SHO Safdar Mashwani said the incident appeared to be an outcome of a personal dispute.

The body and injured were shifted to the JPMC.

Mechanic killed in tanker fire

A mechanic was burnt to death and two other persons suffered injuries when an empty oil tanker exploded in Yusuf Goth, Baldia Town on Monday.

Saeedabad SHO Shakir Husain said that the tanker had developed some fault and mechanic Zohaib Gul was carrying out welding work when the oil in the vehicle caught fire causing an explosion.

As a result, the mechanic died of burns while Mohammed Hashim, 55, and Abu Bakr, 17, were injured.

The dead and wounded were shifted to the Burns Centre of the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital.

The SHO said that the condition of injured persons was out of danger as they suffered minor burn wounds.
